Uig Terminal Building: Upcoming Changes and Developments
Project progress and delivery
The Highland Council’s (THC) project to construct the new CFL ticket office is progressing, with an expected completion date in Q2 2025. There will be a handover period to ensure CFL is fully operational in the new building.
Plans for the existing ticket office and warehouse
Upon CalMac’s relocation, CMAL will address the future of the existing ticket office and warehouse, which will no longer be necessary for ferry operations. The building, currently in poor condition, requires major repairs, including the removal of asbestos-containing materials. These repairs pose a substantial obligation to any potential buyer.
Demolition and future use
CMAL’s preference is to demolish the existing structure and market the vacant site for sale. This approach ensures that all interested parties have an equal opportunity to make offers and allows CMAL to achieve the best value for the surplus asset. Best value encompasses both commercial value and community benefits, which will be considered during the evaluation process.
Timeline
- Expected full vacant possession: Q3 2025
- Projected start of demolition: Autumn/Winter 2025
- Marketing process commencement: Autumn/Winter 2025
