NTM 09/16 Sound of Kerrera Ferry Slipway Improvement Works
Mariners are advised contractor George Leslie Ltd will be undertaking marine works in the Sound of Kerrera which will include:
- Extension to Gallanach Ferry Slipway including erection of a 20m temporary pier;
- Extension to Kerrera Ferry Slipway;
- Construction of 40m break water on the south side of of the extended Kerrera slipway.
Weather permitting, works are programmed to commence on Monday 11th January 2016 and are scheduled to be completed by the end of June 2016.
Between Monday 18 January and Friday 26 February, works will only allow for operation of a pedestrian only ferry service.
The works will be supported by the workboat ‘Misneach’.

The works supervisor will ensure a radio watch is maintained on VHF channels 12 and 16 and liaise with skippers of the Kerrera Ferry to mitigate where possible, disruption to scheduled ferry services.
All vessels navigating in the vicinity of the ferry slipways, Sound of Kerrera are advised to exercise vigilance and pass at minimum safe manoeuvring speed and sufficient distance from the area of works to reduce the risk of damage or injury being caused by the passing vessel’s wash or displacement. Owners and operators of high speed vessels should be particularly vigilant regarding their speed and the wash that can be created.
