NAVAL TRAINEE’S WORK EXPERIENCE TRIP
A trainee naval architect at Malakoff Limited in Shetland has spent a week in Port Glasgow with Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL) to learn more about ferry services in Scotland.
Kieran Fraser (17), who has been with Malakoff Limited for 12 months, gained an insight into work carried out by CMAL. His week involved a visit to Ferguson’s shipyard, which is currently building two ferries for CMAL, as well as a trip to Islay to carry out an inspection of the MV Finlaggan.
The experience was arranged after CMAL’s vessels team spent several weeks at Malakoff’s shipyard in Lerwick to oversee the construction of the MV Carvoria, which is now in service on the Gallanach to Kerrera route.
John Salton, Fleet Engineer at CMAL said:
“This was a fantastic opportunity for Kieran to see first-hand how we deliver new build projects, as well as our regular ferry maintenance programme. We hope it has been a valuable part of his training.”
