GOUROCK LINKSPAN TO CLOSE FOR REMEDIAL WORKS
The linkspan at Gourock Ferry Terminal will close for nine days on Wednesday 25 August 2021 after Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL) detected an issue with the hydraulic lifting cylinders.
Engineers at CMAL, which owns Gourock Ferry Terminal, have identified the presence of debris affecting the cylinders. The issue is not posing any immediate operational or health and safety concerns, but CMAL is keen to carry out remedial works ahead of the winter months.
Contractors have been instructed to replace both cylinders and to clean and paint the suspension beams.
Morven Bridges, Head of Engineering at CMAL, said:
“This is a preventative measure to avoid future disruption. The issue isn’t causing any current problems, but if left unchecked it could impact operation of the linkspan. We’re investing in the work to support a resilient service during winter, when the linkspan will be relied on to act as the main berth for Gourock to Dunoon services, as well as the alternative mainland port for Arran and Bute.”
During the linkspan closure, the Dunoon ferry service will operate from the Gourock Boat Steps, alongside the Kilcreggan service. CalMac will operated a temporary amended timetable from 25 August to 2 September.
CMAL is progressing a project for the redevelopment of Gourock Ferry Terminal to ensure the long-term sustainability and resilience of the port. CMAL’s strategic business case for a masterplan was approved late last year and an outline business case, with detailed options and costs, is now being developed.
