CMAL LAUNCHES GAELIC LANGUAGE PLAN CONSULTATION
Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL) has launched a consultation to gather views and opinions on a new five-year Gaelic Language Plan 2022 to 2027.
Those with an interest in promoting Gaelic are invited to share their views and opinions on CMAL’s draft plan. Gaelic and English versions of the draft plan are available to read:

The closing date is 5.00pm on 5 January 2022.
CMAL’s plan sets out its commitments and achievements towards enhancing the status of the language and promoting its use through a range of actions and initiatives, including bilingual signage at harbours and other properties; bilingual names for all ferries; Gaelic translation of communications material, such as website and social media; and a number of employees are currently learning Gaelic.
Kevin Hobbs, chief executive at CMAL, said:

We recognise that the position of Gaelic is extremely fragile and if it is to be protected and revitalised, it needs the combined efforts of individuals and organisations. Thathar a’ toirt cuireadh dhaibhsan le ùidh ann an adhartachadh na Gàidhlig gu am beachdan agus am barailean a roinn mu dhreachd plana CMAL. Tha tionndaidhean Gàidhlig is Beurla den dreachd plana rim faotainn airson an leughadh:
Faodar an t-suirbhidh air-loidhne a lìonadh le cliogadh air
Is e an ceann-latha deireannach 5 Faoilleach 2022.
Tha plana CMAL a’ mìneachadh a dhealasan agus a choileanaidhean a dh’ionnsaigh inbhe a’ chànain a neartachadh agus a cleachdadh adhartachadh tro raon de ghnìomhan agus iomairtean, a’ gabhail a-steach soidhneachd dà-chànanach aig calaidhean is togalaichean eile; ainmean dà-chànanach do na h-aiseagan uile; eadar-theangachadh Gàidhlig air stuthan conaltraidh, leithid an làrach-lìn agus meadhanan sòisealta; agus tha àireamh de chosnaichean gu làithreach ag ionnsachadh Gàidhlig.
Thuirt Kevin Hobbs, àrd-oifigear CMAL:
“Tha a’ Ghàidhlig na pàirt chudromach de dhualchas, dearbh-aithne nàiseanta agus beatha chultarach na Gàidhlig. Tha sinn a’ tuigsinn gu bheil suidheachadh na Gàidhlig anabarrach cugallach agus ma tha i gu bhith air a dìon agus air a h-ath-bheothachadh, tha feum air oidhirpean co-obrachail bhuidhnean agus dhaoine fa leth. Tha sinn dealasach a thaobh ar pàirt a choileanadh ann an cuideachadh le dèanamh cinnteach gum bi a’ Ghàidhlig seasmhach ann an Alba san àm ri teachd.”
