CMAL HARBOUR MAINTENANCE & REPAIRS TO SLOWLY RESUME
In line with Scottish Government guidance, CMAL is preparing to re-start major infrastructure projects across the harbour network. A phased approach has been agreed by Scottish Government and the construction industry, which CMAL and its suppliers will be following.
The first two steps of this construction return involve planning Covid-19 related measures that need to be in place and then return to construction sites with a small number of personnel to prepare. Site preparation works will involve measures such as implementing physical distancing, marking of 2 metre distancing and installation of additional hand washing/sanitiser provisions. These preparations will allow the sites and work areas to be ready for the subsequent steps of returning to work.
Contractors will start site preparation works at Tiree and Tarbert ferry terminals in the coming weeks. All of CMAL’s suppliers are putting in place robust plans for travel, accommodation and other arrangements. CMAL will issue specific updates to the project stakeholders and communities for the Tiree and Tarbert works in due course.
The move to the next step of the construction re-start plan, a “soft start” with limited personnel on site, is still subject to Scottish Government confirmation.
CMAL has also started engaging with suppliers to identify smaller scale works and projects that can re-start whilst maintaining 2 metre distancing. With these works, the need for extensive travel and overnight stays for personnel is being discouraged at this time.
CMAL is in regular contact with Transport Scotland and CalMac in relation to arranging ferry travel for suppliers to facilitate these works.
