CMAL launches school art competition to welcome new Islay ferries to Scotland
Local school children in Islay and Jura have been invited to take part in a competition to have their masterpieces displayed onboard MV Isle of Islay and MV Loch Indaal.
Ahead of the arrival of the two new Islay ferries, Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL) is looking for eight pieces of island-inspired artwork from the five local primary schools and local high school including: Small Isles Primary, Keills Primary, Port Charlotte Primary, Port Ellen Primary, Bowmore Primary and Islay High School.
The competition is open to students in four age categories: primary 1-3, primary 4-7, senior 1-3, and senior 4-6. Once the winners have been chosen, they will be invited onboard each of the vessels during the introduction ceremonies to see their artwork displayed.
The eight winners will also receive an art-related prize, which will be awarded during the ceremony, and one overall winner will have the opportunity to choose a local charity to receive a £1,500 donation from CMAL via their school.

“Engaging young people in this type of competition not only fosters their creative talents, but also introduces them to the important role the maritime industry plays in Scotland.”
“It’s an industry that offers tremendous opportunities for young people to explore. This competition helps showcase that, while also allowing the community to be part of welcoming the new ferries to the community in Islay.”
Submissions for the competition will be accepted until the end of November, and the winners will be announced in December.
