Summer 2023 Newsletter — Water we up to?
In this feature, we take a closer look at some of CMAL’s live projects. For this edition, we’re celebrating reaching two key milestones in the construction of MV Loch Indaal and the first Little Minch ferry at the Cemre shipyard in Turkey.
MV Loch Indaal
In May 2023, the names of the two Islay ferries were officially chosen via a public vote. When the two ferries are launched, they will be known as MV Isle of Islay and MV Loch Indaal.
The keel for MV Loch Indaal was laid down, a significant milestone in the ship’s life, with the first of many units to be fabricated and erected during the construction of the ferry. With construction progressing well at the yard, MV Loch Indaal is expected to be delivered in February 2025. MV Isle of Islay is expected first, in October 2024.
First Little Minch ferry
Also, in May this year, steel cutting for the yet-unnamed first Little Minch ferry began, marking the official construction of the ferry. The public will be asked to vote on the names for both Little Minch ferries in 2024, with delivery planned for June and October 2025.
This, paired with the delivery of the dual fuel vessels currently being constructed at Ferguson Marine shipyard on the Clyde, will see six new vessels joining the Scottish ferry network by the end of 2025. A summary of the key milestones for MV Islay of Islay and MV Loch Indaal, and the Two Little Minch vessels can be found below:
