CMAL Presents MV Loch Seaforth Model
Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL) has presented a scale replica model of the MV LOCH SEAFORTH to the David MacBrayne Group (DML) at the Stornoway Port Office today (Wednesday 17 June 2015).
CMAL Chair, Erik Østergaard, presented the 117cm model (built 1:100 to scale) to CalMac Ferries Ltd Chairman, David McGibbon, and CEO, Martin Dorchester. It was commissioned by Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft MBH and Co Kg.
Erik Østergaard said: “I’m delighted to present the MV LOCH SEAFORTH model to its operators CalMac and hope that they and all who see it in the Stornoway Port Office enjoy the model.”
“It is a great pleasure to receive this model from CMAL today,” said Martin Dorchester, Managing Director of Caledonian MacBrayne. “I have no doubt passengers and locals alike will be fascinated by it and really admire the intricate detail of this meticulous copy. ”Its much larger sister, which makes her home in the berth next to this office, has proved very popular with our passengers and brings a new level of modernity, reliability and comfort to the fleet, and we look forward to sailing her for many years.”
MV LOCH SEAFORTH entered service in February 2015 on her route between Stornoway and Ullapool. At 117 metres in length, she is the largest ferry in CMAL’s fleet and was built by Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft MBH and Co KG, Flensburg, Germany in 2014 and can accommodate 142 cars and 700 passengers.
The model displays the wide stern door, the aft open vehicle deck, one of the mezzanine car decks in a deployed position, the window glazing of the panoramic lounges forward and aft, the external seating, the forward and aft bow thrusters and the underwater shape of the vessel that was developed by the shipyard to reduce resistance as the vessel moves through the water. Also of note are the hull lines around the stern which allow effective water flow into the Costa bulb type propellers.
